Phil Laing from the Ishinryu Karate Club in Lower Hutt brought over Jonatahn Mottrom for a one day Kata, Kihon and Coaching Seminar. The seminar was attended by around 200 Karateka, all very keen to expand their knowledge from a 9th Dan Karate legend. We brought Hasegawa Sensei to Whangarei again for teaching. This was his eighth visit, and as always he was superb, his teaching and demonstrating ability continues to improve. This tournament has become a traditional journey for our organisation, and since the demise of the Northland Open, the first "hit out "of the NZ tournament season. At the recent Northland Sports Awards, held in Whangarei on the evening of 2nd December, Karatedo Shitokai did very well. Nicky Roberts won the Female Karate code award, then followed it up with the Gary Frew Memorial Trophy for -21 Sportsperson of the Year (for the second consecutive year). Once again Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand is very fortunate to have Hasegawa Sensei visit Whangarei over Easter and the week that followed, to teach our students. Hasegawa Sensei focused on the clubs top students, Nicky and Matthew.

In September 2010, Master Goshi Yamaguchi visited New Zealand as part of the Japanese Festival held in Wellington and later put on a demonstration, followed by a seminar presented by Lynsay Johnson of I.K.G.A Goguryu New Zealand. Suffice to say, there was a strong attendance with the majority being Gojuryu but also very well represented by Shotokan, Wadoryu and of course, Kieran and myself represented Shitoryu.
