![]() 2009 Manawatu Championships 14th June 2009
The Manawatu Champs (organised by Gregor McLaclan, Wadokai) completed successfully, being the second one attended by Karate Do Shitokai New Zealand - Palmerston North. The event was well attended by most of the local clubs with about 85 competitors taking part with about an equal number of supporters. A key focus were the younger members mixing it up in both Kata and Kumite.
The highlights for me was the Boys 13-15 Premier kumite, Barney Gill and the Mens Open Kumite. Barney put in some awesome moves while the Mens really mixed it up providing displays of some good old dojo sparring moves. Tim and Hogan kept it tight with only a point in it, in the end. As for Karate Do Shitokai - Palmerston North (PSK), for a small club we did very well with another 66% success rate. Ann won the womans Novice which is a fantastic result, given 6 months training (although she was being drilled leading up to it). Kieran achieved 2nd in the Boys 13-15 years Premier grade. His first two katas taking all flags with the Shitei katas, followed by Gojushiho for the final. Manawatu Champs Results 2009 ![]() ![]() | Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand
