New Zealand Nationals and Secondary Schools Open 2010
Karate Do Shitokai once again completed in numbers with 8 members from Whangarei and 3 members from Palmerston North all travelling to Porirua where the event was held this year. Most team members completed in the Premier division although three of our students proved to be very successful in the development section. Although there were meant to be a development section, Karate New Zealand had merged both premier and development together making it all the more challenging.
Overall, as a club we did very well, taking 9 medals in total with Nicky contributing 3 of them. First year for Danny Burns winning Bronse and Joseph Silver in the NZSS. For Palmerston North, Ann proved to be the salvation for us, winning Silver in the womans vets after it development and premier divisions were combined.
Overall, 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronse
The Vets and Super Vets were combined making a strong field of 35 years to 50+. Vets Kumite showed that it was still actively competed with some good kicks still being put in.
Another good year of representation from Palmerston North. Along with Shitokai New Zealand, Gregor McLachlan club Wadokai Karate had two students and Linsay Thomas from Gojuryu Karate.
