2011 Sensei Hasegawa Visit to Whangarei - 12 May 2011
Once again Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand is very fortunate to have Hasegawa Sensei visit Whangarei over Easter and the week that followed, to teach our students. Hasegawa Sensei focused on the clubs top students, Nicky and Matthew.

All his teachings is then transferred to all three Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand clubs by Sensei Bob, Nicky and Matthew. The result is that many students improve in technique and understanding and it is not often that students ever get the opportunity to experience and see a world class karateka.

This is Hasegawa Sensei’s 7th visit to Whangarei and each time he brings our two students a "level up” as he likes to put it. Over the years, he has gradually increased the amount he passes on, from basic Kihon, to very advanced techniques, and this year was a big one because he showed Matthew and Nicky some very special advanced techniques.

Shitokai New Zealand is very fortunate to have a huge library of video from all his visits, which are constantly referred to and pass onto our students.

However, it was not all hard training (although most of it was!). Murray Burns and his son Matt Burns from our Kamo club very kindly took him out for a night fishing in Murray’s boat in the Whangarei harbour. This is the first time Hasegawa Sensei has been sea fishing, although with out much luck (they caught a few small snapper which they threw back), but next year we will hire a large boat and take him out from Tutukaka which should guarantee some big fish, which will excite him a lot!

We also took him to the Bay of Islands, out to the "Hole in the Rock”, which he found very interesting, and video’d the trip so he could take the video back to Japan with him.

All in all, another great visit from Hasegawa Sensei. One of the best things about him is that although he trains very hard, (we just love the hard training and the knowledge he passes on) he has a great sense of humor.

During Hasegawa Sensei training, several of our senior students came along to watch, and were totally "gobsmacked” at just how good he is and what a great Shitoryu teacher he is.

Shitokai New Zealand are very fortunate to be able to have Hasegawa Sensei visit us each year and to have him pass his knowledge onto us.
