posted by Dukenukem on | under National Events2014 New Zealand Nationals and Secondary School Championships 13th July 2014 Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand took two young competitors, Olivia Crum and Yvette Hendrickse, to the 2014 NZ National championships. Olivia also competed in the NZ Secondary Schools championships. Both girls entered the 12/13 years female premier Kata, and in a very competitive field, placed equal 3rd, then Olivia placed 3rd in the -14 years female premier Kata in the secondary schools competition (Yvette is in her last year at Intermediate school). Both girls performed very well in what was their first year of serious competition and both are looking good for the future. I am very happy that they both placed equally, as they have both trained extremely well and both girls improved dramatically on their Hamilton Open in June, where they Yvette and Olivia placed 1st and 2nd respectively. I took both girls to New Caledonia on my annual visit to our sister club, where they both had time with Hasegawa Sensei, and that experience has only made them hungry for more improvement. Finally, special congratulations to Yvette, who was named in the New Zealand team to the Oceania Karate Championships in Fiji September this year. She is competing in the 12/13 years female Kata, where I am sure she will do well. Yvette is Karatedo Shitokai’s youngest ever NZ representative and she joins a long list of NZ representatives from our organisation. Again, congratulations to both girls for their dedication to training & all the extra hours they put in this year, and go well in Fiji Yvette! ![]() | Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand
