2015 New Zealand Nationals and Secondary School Championships 11th July 2015

The 2015 New Zealand Nationals had around 150 competitors this year and Karate Do Shitokai had three of their members (Nicky Roberts, Evette and Olivier) competing in kata divisions.

Shitokai have always been represented at the Nationals and Secondary Schools and although our numbers were down this year, we still achieved a 100% success rate with all three members obtaining medal placing.

Yvette Hendrikse was our third competitor at the Nationals, with Nicky and Olivia winning Bronze on the Saturday Yvette had to wait till Sunday to compete.

Winning her first two rounds got her through to the finals of the 12-13 year old girls kata.  She was beaten in the finals but a silver medal at Nationals was a great result, congratulations.

In the afternoon both Yvette and Olivia competed in the NZ Secondary Schools Championship and although Olivia probably did better kata in this tournament she failed to medal (that’s karate for you).  Yvette continued her strong performance with a Bronze medal so again congratulations.
Three competitors, four medals not a bad weekend for Karatedo Shitokai.

Nicky Roberts - Bronze Senior Woman’s
Oliver Crum - Bronze in the 14-15 age group
Yvette Hendrikse - Silver in the 12-13 age Nationals and Bronze in the Secondary Schools

A big difference this year is the over whelming female competitors and a noticeable attendance of new clubs from around the country. Next year some of the boys need to front, can’t let the girls win all the medals.

However, overall congratulations to Nicky, Olivia and Yvette and a very successful day for Karatedo Shitokai.
