 2015 Auckland Open 18 August 2015 / Sugihara Cup 22nd August 2015

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks for Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand.

It started with the Auckland Open on the 16th August.  Both Matthew Baird and Yvette Hendrikse competed in kata.  Matthew had a tough draw with a visiting Japanese team competing, but it’s nice to see Matthew back competing.

On Tuesday the 18th August the New Caledonian’s arrived for the Sugihara Cup.  We picked them up in Auckland and brought them North for the week.

A special thanks to Auretta Dalton for hosting Marie-Jo and Corinne, Richard & Julie Crum for hosting Amelia, Killian and Nicholas and Shery & Nick Hendrikse for hosting Louis and Ange plus also thanks to Matt Redfern for taking Thursday to show them around Whangarei.  I had the rest of the group Guy, David and Alan.
Personally I think it went really well and strengthened our bond as sister clubs.

Saturday and Sunday 22nd & 23rd August was the Sugihara Cup.  Yvette and Matthew again competed.  Matthew did better making it to the medal round but missing out and Yvette did a little worse getting silver (unlucky).  The New Caledonian team did well.  David on his own got four medals, kata, team kata, kumite and team kumite.

I was very impressed by the standard of the New Caledonian team, Sensei Clemont is to be congratulated.  I also saw the influence of our late Sensei Bob Dalton and Sensei Hasegawa.  We look forward to training with them in the future and sharing knowledge.

BLACK BELT GRADINGS

This year Karatedo Shitokai has ten students going for Shodan and one for Nidan.

The grading day is November 7th at the Honbu Dojo on Riverside Drive starting at 9am.  It will be a big day and from a personal point of view I am really looking forward to it.  It will be a good opportunity for our students to showcase their talents.  Karate starts at Black Belt and all the effort to get there is worth it, so good luck to you all.
