Kieran Nuku was our only representative and the only able body fit
enough to compete after 20 months off training for a ACL knee surgery.
So with 3 weeks refresher on kata he was entered into the 20+ Open Kate
division finishing with a respectable bronze placing. Quite a good result given a strong field and it was only a wobble while performing Nipaipo that caused him to miss out for a final placing. Also missing out on a 1st placing (14-15 Girls Premier Kata) is a much improved student from USK, Jaquelin Siu. It was great to see a strong kihon from her Shotokan style and if it wasn't for a double misstep while performing Jion, she would have taken first place. That's the way it goes and a mistake on the day can often mean the difference between a Gold or Silver. However it was a great event and a lot of happy young competitors. 2016 Manawatu Open ![]() Kieran Nuku - Bronze 20+ Mens Open ![]() Could be one of the best photos - Lukas Dreyer (Left) and Elian Pagalaliwan (Right) | Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand
