![]() A great showing from the Manawatu region, clubs and instructors for Shitoryu, Shotokan and Wado and a scattering of competitors. As mentioned, Soke Kenyu Mabuni also attended the Nationals along with Sensei Hasegawa, invited to New Zealand by Sensei Johnny Ling. Soke Kenyu Mabuni is the son of the 2nd Soke Kenei Mabuni and the grandson to the founder of Shito-ryu Kenwa Mabuni. I had the opportunity to sit and talk with Soke Mabuni and in that discussion I explained that my start in Shitoryu was from Soke Kenzo Mabuni and it was only when I met Sensei Bob Dalton, that it changed. Soke indicated that he was on a very busy schedule with events he was attending and also preparations for the World Shito-ryu championship in Tokyo 2019. I was also good to have a chance to talk to Sensei Johnny Ling and later introduced to Sensei Hasegawa. ![]() Soke Kenyu Mabuni, Sensei Dave Nuku ![]() Soke Mabuni, Dave Nuku, Sensei Hasegawa ![]() New Zealand Nationals, competitor events | Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand
