Karatedo Shitokai - Saturday 12th December marked the final grading of the year, the 1st Kyu and Nidan gradings with Matt Redfern and Aaron Springford successfully passing their gradings for 1st Kyu after a solid effort from both of them. This year 7 members from Whangarei and 2 members from Palmerston North club took part in the New Zealand Nationals held in Wellington. As usual there was a solid line up of competitors in each division with most members competing in the premier divisions. There was also a good representation from Palmerston North. The Manawatu Champs (organised by Gregor McLaclan, Wadokai) completed successfully, being the second one attended by Karate Do Shitokai New Zealand - Palmerston North. The event was well attended by most of the local clubs with about 85 competitors taking part with about an equal number of supporters. Having not competed for the last 2-3 years, we were excited about attending this competition. Having a young club, Dave, Keiran and Jenny entered into the premier kata division. First up was Kieran in the 13-15 age group who took out 3rd placing with 3 clear flags. Jenny competed in the Seniors womans and took 2nd placing.
