2014 Shitokai New Zealand DAN Grading - Saturday 13th December 2014
Karatedo Shitokai held its annual end of year gradings on Saturday 13th December at honbu dojo. This year there were three students grading for 3rd Kyu, three for 1st Kyu, and two students grading for Nidan.
I am happy to report that all passed with flying colours. The three youngsters grading for 3rd Kyu,(Devlin Lewis, Alyssa Hendrikse and Reuben Crum) performed most credibly, with their ...

2014 Oceania Championships, FIJI

Karatedo Shitokai New Zealand had one of its up and coming youngsters, Yvette Hendrikse in the New Zealand team to the 2105 Oceania Karate Champs in Fiji recently. Yvette represented New Zealand in 12/13 girls Kata and won Bronze. It was a very pleasing result for Yvette, as this was her first year of serious competition.
Yvette continues Karatedo Shitokai’s proud record of Oceania Champions and medallists in both Kata and Kumite, since ...

2014 Farewell Sensei Robbie - May 2014

RIP - Robbie Smith

Robbie, I cannot believe you have left us, it seems only yesterday that we laughed and joked about you turning fifty (50) this year, I remember laughing and telling you that I felt so sorry you were getting old, and now you are with us no longer. My heart goes out to Meilin, Isaac and Larissa, what they must be feeling is beyond comprehension. You ...

The effect of his teaching on both of them was most impressive, as it has been on ...

2014 Hamilton Open - Sunday 30th March 2014
The Hamilton Open was the start of Karatedo Shitokai’s first tournament of the year, and, as usual, Sensei Robbie Smith and his organising team ran a superb event, with over 250 competitors attending. It made for a huge day, but all events ran like clockwork, a tribute to the organising skills of all concerned. With 250+ competitors, it would have to have been easily New Zealand’s biggest ...

2014 Sayonara Zara - Saturday 22nd February 2014
It is with great sadness that Karatedo Shitokai Honbu dojo says sayonara to one of our Dan grades, Zara Wech, although hopefully, temporarily. Zara is moving to Hamilton to attend Waikato University, studying early childhood education, a three year course. Zara has been a student of Sensei Bob since early 2007 when she joined as an 11 year old, and, from day one she was a standout ...
