2009 Hamilton Open - 18 April 2009

The last cpuple of months have been very busy, not without it's pit falls. Sensei Bob Dalton had a major accident with his mountain bike which saw him in hospital for about a month suffering serveral broken ribs and collar bone. He is back home and going through a mending process although it will still be some time before he fully recovers from his injuries. On a positive note, we did manage to catch up with him and his team at the Hamilton Open which was run on the 29th March 2009.

Hamilton Open

Having not competed for the last 2-3 years, we were excited about attending this competition. Having a young club, Dave, Keiran and Jenny entered into the premier kata division. First up was Kieran in the 13-15 age group who took out 3rd placing with 3 clear flags. Jenny competed in the Seniors womans and took 2nd placing. Dave competed in a strong senior round having won the first round, then matching up to two very good kata competitors from Sensei Bob team. Dave lost the 2nd round and took one flag out of three for the 3rd placing round, losing to achieving 4th overall.

Considering it was our first competition in some years we did very well with our small team having a 66% medal take.

In the mens seniors, kata was dominated by Shitoryu with Bobs team taking 2nd and 3rd and Dave from Palmerston placed 4th.
