posted by Dukenukem on | under Nouvelle Caledonie2012 French National Championships The 2012 French National championships were held in Paris on the 3rd March 2012, and Alicia Bezier from our New Caledonia sister club, competed in the Junior Women Kata. Alicia has been home staying in Whangarei since early January, with Sensei Bob and his Wife, practicing Karate, training five days a week and attending honbu dojo. The intense training has seen her Karate improve considerably, and in Paris Alicia came third in a huge field of over sixty competitors. She won her two Shitei rounds, using Seipai and Seinchin, 5-0 and 4-1, then the first free round 5-0 using Nipaipo 5-0, and the quarter final 5-0 using Matsumura Bassai. In the semi final she was most unlucky to lose 5-0 to another competitor who used Matsumura Bassai to Alicia's Tomari Bassai. Having have viewed the video, I believe that Alicia was very unlucky not to have taken that round. In the repecharge Alicia won 3-2 for third place. Alicia is staying with Sensei Bob until 29th April, and will benefit from several days training with Hasegawa Sensei, who is coming to NZ on his annual visit. Since returning from Paris, Alicia has continued to improve in power and speed, and will be competing at both the Hamilton and NZ Open before returning to New Caledonia, where Sensei Bob is teaching in late May. Well done Alicia!
